Bender Bending Rodriguez
By riggerman | April 1, 2008
Ok, maybe I’m watching too much Futurama…
Bender seemed so simple to model and texture that I gave it a try… and really liked the results! Took about 2 weeks of production in my spare time.
This time the model was rendered using Mental Ray Contour Shader, it is really simple to set up and quite superior to my Planet Express Ship render (that used Paint FX toonshader and Maya Software).
I managed to rig him so it could act like in the TV show, his ‘’ mouth ‘’ has those weird and funny waves, the teeth can be moved so he can drink and smoke, the antena can bend and be pushed, his limbs stretch and the eyes can be deformed as well.
I’m not capturing a demonstration video this time, instead I’m asking someone to animate him, it should be more fun. : )
Modeled in XSI, rigged and rendered in Maya, Bender is soon going to be animated… stay tuned.
